Cycles of Warfare and Blessing | Prophetic Word 5787 : Part 2
We are in an exciting prophetic season as we have just entered a new year on the Hebrew calendar!
Today, I want to speak about how God is ending cycles of warfare, waiting, and preparation to ready us to step into a new season of promise.
The Biblical and Prophetic Meaning of the Number 7
I believe God loves to speak through the numbers He created. It's not weird or new age—it's biblical! With that in mind, I am going to introduce today's word by looking at the number seven (7) and where it appears in the Bible.
We just entered the new Hebrew year 5787–the 7th year of this decade, or the year of the zayin (7).
In part one of my prophetic word for this season, I broke down the meaning of the zayin, the 7th character of the Hebrew alphabet, and how it can represent a sword or God's word. (You can read part one here.) We are in the 7th Hebrew month, Tishrei. This is a month of closing and ending—completion—as we step into a new beginning. In the Bible, the number 7 often represents completion, perfection, and Sabbath rest. We see this pattern again and again in Scripture, starting at the very beginning in Genesis.
The Law of First Mention: Seven and the Completion of Creation
The “law of first mention” is a Bible-study principle that suggests that when a word, theme, symbol, or concept first appears in Scripture, its first occurrence can provide important foundational context for understanding how that idea develops throughout the Bible.
It isn't a biblical law or a rule that determines the meaning of every later occurrence, but it can be a helpful starting point when tracing a biblical theme.
The First Mention of Seven
So where does the number 7 first appear in Scripture?
We find it in the creation account:
“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.”Genesis 2:2
The passage continues:
“So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”Genesis 2:3
This is significant because the first appearance of seven in Scripture is connected to the completion of creation.
And notice what surrounds the seventh day:
Completion. God finished His work.
Rest. God rested from His work.
Blessing. God blessed the seventh day.
Holiness. God made the seventh day holy—set apart.
So, as we begin tracing the number 7 throughout Scripture, we see a foundational picture established right here in Genesis:
7 — completion, rest, blessing, and being set apart.
More Major Biblical Sevens Worth Knowing
Here are a few more examples that show how often the number seven appears throughout Scripture, often in connection with completion, fullness, consecration, and God’s appointed purposes.
Seven days of creation — Genesis 1–2 Seven pairs of clean animals — Genesis 7:2–3 Seven days before the Flood — Genesis 7:4, 10 Seven years of plenty — Genesis 41:29 Seven years of famine — Genesis 41:30 Seven lamps — Exodus 25:37 Seven days of consecration — Exodus 29:35 Seventh day Sabbath — Exodus 20:8–11 Seven times around Jericho on the seventh day — Joshua 6:4 Seven priests with seven trumpets — Joshua 6:4 Blood sprinkled seven times — Leviticus 16:14 Seven weeks to Pentecost/Shavuot — Leviticus 23:15–16 Seven eyes of the LORD — Zechariah 3:9; 4:10 Seven times a day I praise you — Psalm 119:164 Words purified seven times — Psalm 12:6 Seven things the LORD hates — Proverbs 6:16–19 The righteous falls seven times and rises — Proverbs 24:16 Forgive seventy-seven times / seventy times seven — Matthew 18:21–22 Seven servants chosen — Acts 6:3–6
With the biblical meaning of the number seven in mind, let's take a look at one more biblical reference to give context for the word I have for today.
Joseph and 7 Year Cycles
Of everyone in the Bible, I feel like I relate most to Joseph. I love his story because it’s one of hope, perseverance, suffering, God’s timing and favor, dreams, prophetic insight, redemption, and forgiveness.
Let’s pick up in Joseph’s story in Genesis 41. After a long season of preparation, Joseph is brought before Pharaoh to interpret two similar dreams—where God speaks through the number seven.
Dream One: Seven Cows
Pharaoh sees seven healthy, fat cows coming up out of the Nile, followed by seven thin and ugly cows.
Joseph explains that the seven healthy cows represent seven years of great abundance, while the seven thin cows represent seven years of famine.
Dream Two: Seven Ears of Grain
Then Pharaoh has a second dream.
He sees seven plump ears of grain growing on one stalk, followed by seven thin ears of grain, scorched by the east wind.
Joseph gives the same interpretation:
“The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dreams are one.”— Genesis 41:26
The seven good ears of grain represented the same seven years of abundance, while the seven thin ears represented the coming seven years of famine.
What stands out to me is that God gave Pharaoh two dreams with the same message. Joseph says:
“The dreams are one.”
And then he tells Pharaoh why the dream was repeated:
“And the doubling of Pharaoh’s dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it about.”— Genesis 41:32
Seven years of plenty.
Seven years of famine.
The dreams happened twice, so the matter was confirmed. It was going to happen as Joseph interpreted.
Seven marking two complete, appointed seasons—and God revealing what was coming before the season arrived.
God Completes the Cycles of Famine and Plenty, Blessing and Hardship
As I heard the following word for today, I couldn't help but think of Joseph—and God's purposes within the cycles of our lives.
He completes cycles in our lives—and He can even use cycles of difficulty to prepare us for what is coming next.
In Joseph's story, God revealed a cycle of seven years of great abundance followed by seven years of famine. But some of you have experienced the opposite.
Some of you have been in a cycle of famine or warfare—but as you come into this new season, it's time to enter a new cycle of blessing.
I Prophesy that the Cycles of Warfare Are Ending
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and cry to her that her warfare is ended,
that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
double for all her sins.
Isaiah 40:1-2 ESV
The word translated “warfare” in this passage is the Hebrew word tsaba (צָבָא), which can mean “host,” “army,” “war,” “battle,” "waiting upon," or “service” (Strong’s H6635).
Prophetic Word: REST FROM WARFARE
As we enter this 7th year in the 7th month of Tishri, it's a time to enter a rest from warfare. I believe many people have been through a season of warfare—and God wants you to know the warfare will not last forever. It is coming to an end.
He is using, and has used, warfare as your training ground.
He is elevating the wounded warriors—those who have persevered in the midst of life's storms and battles— in this season.
While this is not a word for all, it may be a word for some: I believe a wave of generational cycles, strongholds, and issues has surfaced in people's lives over the past 7 years.
Those familiar (family) spirits and issues have popped up that have had legal rights in family bloodlines. Those negative cycles passed down from generation to generation will end with you. I hear the Lord say, "Do not give up now! We are almost across the finish line!
Will you pick up your sword and reclaim your territory?"
Attacks have attempted to hold many back from stepping into NEW cycles of generational blessing, NEW territory, and more of the inheritance God has for us.
The warfare has made many weary. It has caused people to run and hide out of fear of more spiritual backlash and attack for following God's calling and purposing to break the warfare cycles.
It has been an especially weary road for those who have chosen to fight on the front lines of this time's spiritual battle.
It has driven many into the cave of intimidation. There may not be an anointing for breakthrough in the cave,
but at least it is safe from the battle outside.
God is calling you out of the cave into His marvelous light.
But in the onslaught, God has been working even more.
The attacks against you have exposed your enemies.
They have exposed the fault lines in the bloodlines.
When the enemy overplays his hand, God uses it to reveal his strategy to us.
Then we get to wield the sword of authority He has given us,
to cut off the enemy at the root.
I prophesy to you that the 7-year cycle of warfare is ending.
The onslaught of spiritual attacks.
The generational issues that seem relentless.
The locusts that have continually tried to devour your crops.
You will not be held back any longer,
but you will advance.
And when the enemy is caught,
he must pay 7-fold what he has stolen. A 7-fold return of blessing and plenty.
But if he is caught, he must pay back seven times what he stole, even if he has to sell everything in his house. Proverbs 6:31 NLT
Prophetic Word 5787: A New Cycle of Blessing
I want to prophesy to you that the warfare is ending, and it's time to enter a new place of rest and promise.
Breakthrough is ahead.
And it's time to claim your territory,
to keep going and stand your ground against the enemy's schemes.
To pray in the spirit and wield the sword, which is God's word. To continue to prophesy God's promises over your life— and to rest in His promises. It's time for new cycles of blessings to begin.
(As I wrote this, I was reminded of the passage in Hebrews below about God's sabbath rest ... not realizing it was followed by the passage about God's Word being sharper than a sword—related to part one of my prophetic word about the zayin, the sword, and God's word.)
9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:9-12
The Cycles of Waiting Are Ending
As I finish writing this day, the Holy Spirit reminded me of one other thing highlighted from the Hebrew word tsaba (צָבָא). While it can mean rest, it is hidden within the different meanings in the phrase, "waiting upon." I hear the Lord say, "Declare to her that the 'waiting upon Me' has ended." Sometimes one of the hardest battles to fight is the "waiting" season.
But as Joseph waited in prison for his divine appointment with destiny, the waiting in his life was not in vain.
And neither is the waiting season in your life—as you "wait upon" the LORD.
His waiting cycle came to an end ... and I declare over 5787—this is the year the "waiting cycle" ends.
He is preparing you, in His perfect timing, for the beautiful purposes and destiny He has prepared for you.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Funny, as I finish writing this, sunlight is filling my room as the sun comes out from behind the clouds.
And take a look at this double rainbow that appeared over my neighborhood last night after a day of storms.
